I believe that the only argument for genetically engineering children comes in one form. And that is, imagine the diseases we could prevent and imagine the transmission of genetically handed down diseases we could stop if we decided how the genetic code looked and operated? The idea in of itself is intoxicating. You'd be preventing future heartache or maybe even heartache from birth by taking out the genes that would inevitably cause more harm than good in the child. In parents who always seem to pass down some sort of defect thanks to their own DNA this form of conceiving a child could eliminate an overall painful process to grant a good, long life. Of course, this does come with a rebuttal. Why go this far? Is there not enough that we can do now, in the pre-embryotic stages, to prevent such things. Can we not test in the womb to see what we'll be dealing with? And who has the right to decide what a person can or cannot go through, what gender they will or will not be? So many things that have to be decided by genetics, so many choices being affected for one person almost makes it sound like the freedom of choices we have in life is being taken away. And if we create a child who is to be born without disease or issues, would they then be ones to develop super bugs? We know that life will out, it always finds ways to adapt. So inevitably, would we then not be damning ourselves to a whole new array of germs and sicknesses to fight off while discovering ways to take out the bad bits of genetics? It leaves more bad to ponder on than good when thinking about creating your own child in a test tube, perfect to your every wish and whim. -Caden

I completely agree with the arguments. Genetically modified babies will have a safe and secure future but I will also create a divide in the society based on economic levels. Those who can afford to have this modification would have a better life for their children than those who can't afford it. But, in the course of time, when a modified baby will develop some super-bug, both section of the society will face the burnt and in fact, weaker section will perish as they used to be in the times of plague in the past.
