Topic A

How does your household make its purchasing decision for groceries (e.g. bread, milk, peanut butter, toilet paper, etc.)? Do you have a "short list" of vendors? Or do you mostly visit one place, but go to another if there are sales? Have you ever run out of an essential product? How do you determine what quantity to buy when you do go to the grocery store? Are you "overstocked" on any particular household products? Could you implement a "reorder point" or EOQ (economic order quantity in Section 12-4b) system for your household? When the household buyer goes, does this person have a "purchase order?" If so, what is their "purchase order?" Discuss.

Topic B

Have you ever shopped at a warehouse store (e.g. City Mill, Home Depot, Lowes, Costco, etc)? What are the challenges in stocking and shelving at these stores? How did you find the goods for which you were shopping at this store? If the store used RFID or other technology that helped shoppers locate product inside the store, do you think you would install that app on your phone? Discuss?

Answer #1

Topic A

Most of the basic products that are part of our daily life are bought from a specific shop. The brands that are being used for these products mostly remain same over a period of time.

This rule applies for products like rice, floor, oils, toothpaste etc.

In case the specific brands are not available at our go to shop, we have 2-3 other shops that we buy from.

In case of sales, we do visit other shops or department stores but mostly not for the primary products as mentioned above.

Yes, I would always go for a mobile application option.

The reason being it saves a lot of time.

The buyers thus can avoid chaos and straight away find the needed product. Also, they can check of the particular product they are searching for is even available or not.

Yes, we have run out of products a lot of time. In such a situation you just buy from the nearest grocery store.

The quantity is decided as per our uses for a month. It varies when the number of people increase or decrease at home.

For products like Rice and floor we are overstocked sometimes.

No, the buyer doesn't follow any purchase order.

Topic B

Yes, I have shopped a lot from warehouse stores.

Finding the product you are looking for mostly requires a sequence to follow.

For example - The essential household items are stocked together so that you can take them without needing to move a lot.

Luxury products are kept together and so on.
