AAC stands for Augmentative and Alternative Communication. It contains various methods of communication for those who have some sorts of impairments in communication process. It helps in their better understanding.

It is basically an aid which helps people with communication impairments. These AAC can not be same for each and every person. Special interventions are required based on the intensity of impairment.

AAC incorporates special digitized speech. Whenever we are making selection of any AAC then our main focus should be on the fact that it should maximize the communication style of person. It should maximize the production of sounds.

Comprehensive abilities of concerned person should also be a point of concern. Preferences of affected person must be given priority. AAC should be chosen in a way so that affected person can express his/her wish and needs in a clear manner and without any difficulty.

Before choosing AAC, we should also consider the reason of impairment. If impairment is from birth then there will be other requirements and if impairment is from accident then person's need will be of some other types.

Knowing the reason of impairment is very important aspect. Affected person's intellectual level should also be consider with priority.
