Many non-profit groups solicit companies to help their cause. What are some of the reasons a company may decide to support a particular group? Do you have any experience in asking a company for support? If so, what happened?

Often, consumers and society, in general, lean towards companies that promote or support social causes and issues. Therefore, helping non-profit groups improves the goodwill and positive image of the company in the industry and society.

The reasons a company may choose to support the particular group can be that the issues underlined by the group are the ones the company strongly believes in or those which would help the company in reaffirming a certain aspect of the services of the company.

For example, a furniture company can choose to support groups working towards environmental protection. This would enhance and send an image of the company that it is serious about the issue of environmental protection. It would also imply that the company indulges in environmental protective measures itself while performing its business operations and activities.

I don't have any personal experience of asking a company to support a group but I have heard some incredible stories about how the company takes up the causes of social groups and provides them with a much-needed spotlight. This increases the awareness regarding the issue among the general public many times over.
