Background: Mitral valve prolapse (MVP) occurs when the flaps of the mitral (bicuspid) valve of the heart bulge into the left atrium. This may lead to regurgitation (leaking) of blood from the left ventricle into the left atrium. Many people affected by MVP do not experience negative symptoms. However, if the regurgitation is severe enough, a patient may experience symptoms of chest pain, fatigue, shortness of breath, and arrhythmia.
Questions 1) What are some possible underlying causes of MVP? Why would primary hypertension (high blood pressure with no definable cause) make the symptoms of MVP worse? How might a physician diagnose MVP in an adult (what tests might a doctor perform)
● possible causes of MVP :
- genetic ( by born)
- abnormal stretching valve
- due to some connective tissue diseases.
● primary hypertension makes the symptoms of MVP worse because on increasing blood pressure heart beat goes up rapidly and the patient feel anxiety.
● Initially MVP can be detected by using stethoscope, it this condition heart produce clicking sound when it beats.
