• During pregnancy if a mother has consumed alcohol will result in group of disorders in the fetus called as fetal alcohol spectrum disorder.
• Strictly speaking the women during her pregnancy should never consume alcohol.
• Alcohol passes to fetus from mother blood through umbilical cord.
• Fetus will have problems related to behavior, learning & reduced physical activity.
• So if a women is drinking alcohol during pregnancy she should stop immediately.

A person with fetal alcohol disorder will have:

• Difficulty in attention
• poor weight gain
• small head size
• learning disabilities
• poor memory
• Attention deficit
• Abnormal facial features like formation of ridge between nose and upper lip
• low IQ
• vision or hearing problems

The long term effects include reduced physical development, low IQ, decreased social behavior, poor concentration.
