I know that SWOT has been around for quite awhile - do you think this is still the most effective method for evaluating businesses? I know others have suggested SOAR (Strengths, Opportunities, Aspirations and Results) and SCOC (Internal Strengths and Challenges and External Opportunities and Challenges). Is really just updated language or a a real change in thinking?
SWOT analysis is about defining organization's Strength and Weaknesses alongwith Opportunities and Threats where first two factors are about internal evaluation and other two are about external evaluations and changes.This technique can be termed as one of the best way to serve the purpose.
SOAR also facilitates Strength and Weakness evaluation but it replaces Opportunities and Threats with Aspiration and Results.
We can say that SWOT is strategy which analyzes company's current position but SOAR delivers forward aspects. Its not just an updated language but totally an updated thinking and approach.
SCOC deals in Challenges to Strength and Opportunities where weakness and threats are replaced with challenges to provide it positive approach of evaluation.
Hence we can say that SOAR and SCOC are new thinking to bring positivity in analysis of an organization.
