Cellular respiration is the process of oxidation of glucose to
release the stored energy. Aerobic cellular respiration occurs in
presence of oxygen and release lots of energy (36 ATPs) while
anaerobic respiration occurs in absence of oxygen and produces
comparatively less energy in form of ATPs.
Lifting a dumbbell by bending arm again and again involves work by
muscles of arm and need ATP to carry out muscle contraction.
Cellular respiration in mitochondria of arm muscles provide energy
and makes the arm hot due to release of energy. Aerobic respiration
is source of energy untill the process can be repeated without any
discomfort. When the exercise is continued until the person can no
longer lift it, anaerobic respiration is the source of energy due
to short oxygen supply to continue the aerobic cellular
respiration. Irrespective of aerobic or anaerobic form, cellular
respiration during muscle activity produces energy and makes the
region warmer.
