Hardy-Weinberg model illustrate that alleles and genotypic frequencies in a population will be always constant if evolutionary factor like genetic drift, mutation etc are absent.
The mathematical representation of the model is-
p2 + q2 + 2pq = 1
A gene contains two alleles which can be either dominant (AA) or recessive (aa) or heterozygous (Aa).
In the above equation p is the frequency of dominant allele and q is the frequency of recessive allele in a randomly mating population.
p2 is the frequency of homozygous dominant genotype, q2 is the frequency of homozygous recessive genotype and 2pq is frequency of heterozygous genotype.
