For a person or a community to stay fit, healthcare is of utmost important.

1. According to Institute of Medicine, healthcare quality is designed to meet the health needs of the community or person with the help of knowledge and available resources.

Healthcare services provided by IOM are -

a) provide adequate and promotive health services.

b) to be of the benefit of the people.

c) to be provided to the most needy ones first.

d) to be given to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay for it or not.

e) skilled persons should be given the responsibilty so as to reduce the errors.

f) efficient service within less time.

Healthcare quality is important to make sure that every individual is healthy and free from disease and he is getting benefit out of the resources.

Because health care is a public right.

2) Three approaches to quality improvement are -

a) Patient centered approach - This is done to focus on the person's personal needs, desires related to health. This is done while keeping in mind the priorities of the person.

b) Team work - To maintain the quality, team work is always recommended. Team work, as in health professionals, they apply systems approach to improve health care.

c) Economically and environment friendly - To work efficiently, clean and safe environment is a must need. And low cost can lead to more and more measures for improving healthcare with the particular amount of money.
