Given reaction AgCI + NO ---> Ag + Cl- + NO3-

1) Oxidation half reaction 1) Reduction half reaction

   NO -------> NO3-   AgCI --------> Ag + Cl-

2) Balance the oxygen atoms by adding H2O 2) No oxygen atoms are there, so no balance is required

NO + 2H2O -------> NO3-

3)  Balance the hydrogen atoms by adding H+ 3) No hydrogen atoms are there, so no balance is required

    NO + 2H2O -------> NO3- + 4H+     

4) Balance the charge by adding electrons 4) Balance the charge by adding electrons

     NO + 2H2O -------> NO3- + 4H+ + 3e-    AgCI + e- --------> Ag + Cl-

5) Multiply the oxidation half reaction with 1 and reduction half reaction with 3

   NO + 2H2O -------> NO3- + 4H+ + 3e-

3AgCI + 3e- --------> 3Ag + 3Cl-

6) Cancel the electrons on both sides and write the sum of two reactions

3AgCI + NO + 2H2O -------> 3Ag + 3Cl- + NO3- + 4H+

Therefore, balanced equation is

3AgCI + NO + 2H2O -------> 3Ag + 3Cl- + NO3- + 4H+
