A class action suit is a law suit wherein it could be proved that the defendant had committed acts whic has resulted in injuries or grievances to a large number of members of the society and they collectively demand a compensation for the same in court of law. For a plaintiff, if a case is proven to be of the category of class action, then there is a greater possibility of the court deciding in favor of plaintiff given that a large number of aggrived parties are affected by the same action and there is a pattern of irresponsible and illegal behaviour. Moreover compensation payout and management is also smoother.
From the perspective of defendant, the advantage is that defendant need not fight different and several lawsuits against various parties thus saving them from drain of their resources. Instead the defendant can focus on fighting and defending a single class action lawsuit which provides better utilization of its valuable resources.
