From the "real world," find and list 2 projects and 2 operations. These can come from anywhere in the world (i.e. they do not have to be from the Minnesota area only). If an item you listed was one that you found out about in a book or "literature" (e.g. a magazine, video), please cite your source(s).
Describe the characteristics of each of these real items, as it relates to how you identified them as a project or an operation. The ultimate goal is that you can show that you understand the difference between projects and operations, in a very concrete way.
Projects
Europa project by NASA (Source: NASA IV&V projects website)
LaGuardia Airport Construction Project (Source: CNN website titled “New Delta Terminal unveiled at LaGuardia Airport in New York”)
Operations
Uber app-based taxi service (Source: various sources)
Amazon delivery (Source: various sources)
Projects
The NASA project is a one-time event where NASA is attempting to study the moon of Jupiter. This project is currently ongoing and the mission is expected to launch in 2025. This is a project because once the space shuttle reaches the orbit of Jupiter and collects enough data, the project will end and it will not be a continuous ongoing process. The activities have a fixed lifetime and beyond that they are not repeated.
LaGuardia airport is a new Airport that is set to launch in New York in 2022. It is a construction project undertaken by LaGuardia Gateway Partners. The construction is currently ongoing. It is not a new airport but it is getting a revamp post which, it will serve as another airport beside JFK and Liberty.
Operations
The Uber taxi service is an elaborate global operation of various drivers and passengers. It is an ongoing and continues process that is technologically enabled and runs 24/7 across the world. Due to its continuous process, this qualifies as operation.
Amazon delivery services, is another example of operation. It is an ongoing service that keeps picking up products from their warehouse and delivering it to the customers. This is not exactly a continuous operation but it is repeated every day. Thus it is an operation as well.

JAVA you will design and write a class that represents a real-world object of your choice. In the second part, you will write a program that demonstrates the use of the class. Part I: Select a "real-world" object that has not been used in class lecture and/or the textbook. The object you choose must be defined by at least: Have at least two characteristics (attributes). Have at least two behaviors (operations). The class that you write to represent the object...
Have you ever considered how we come to understand the world around us? Think about that question for a minute. What is science, and how do we use it to solve real-world problems? In our first discussion, I want to delve into thinking about the nature of biology. This includes what it is, the major themes, and how we come to form claims or knowledge. You should spend approximately 3 hours on this assignment. Instructions Use the text readings and...
For the Project III, pick a real world existing global company and write a 15 - 20 page report on that company. Given that several of you expressed to me the challenges of group collaboration and the relatively short time remaining, I am changing this from a group project (followed by an individual paper) to be exclusively an individual project. Therefore, it is up to each individual student to research and write this report. It is not a group effort....
The Course Name is Anatomy and Physiology. You can use
your Own Stories to write the three paragrahp but it should be from
anatomy and physiology.
This assignment is due by midnight July 30.2017. The purpose of this assignment to show you the relevance of this course to your daily life. You may submit up to 4 current event summaries. All summaries are to be submitted at the same time. Each summary will be worth a maximum of 10 points....
ADM 2 United States Postal Service: Mail sorting time variance REAL WORLD One of the operations in the United States Postal Service is a mechanical mail sorting operation. In this operation, handwritten letter mail is sorted at a rate of 1.5 letters per second. An operator sitting at a keyboard mechanically sorts the letter from a three-digit code. The manager of the mechanical sorting operation wishes to determine the number of temporary employees to hire for December. The manager estimates...
Come up with an example from another course (or real life) in which you can apply Bayes' theorem. Criteria: There's some sort of P(A). That is, you have (or had) a probability belief that something was true. Then there's some sort of B - new evidence, or some new development. I want you to calculate your new belief that A is true, given B. That is, you could find P(A|B). 2 points for coming up with an example, 2 points...
Java Eclipse Coding question: Use data abstraction (real-world modeling) to come up with 3 instance variables and 2 effectors for a new data type – the class HospitalPatient. You have the freedom to design the instance variables and effectors. instance variables effectors 1. 1. 2. 2. 3. Write the code for class HospitalPatient, according to the requirement above. Include the default constructors with no argument, and the constructor with all arguments. Provide a getter and setter for each individual instance...
23. Describe the two categories of long-term memory and their subtypes (there are five). Discuss the brain regions involved in each, and provide a real-world example of three of them from your own life. (As a reminder, you can find a discussion of these types of memory in the Video Learning and Memory: Basic distinctions 2 at about 25 minutes). 24. Describe what happens when you damage the brain, and discuss why the nervous system has a difficult time repairing...
For the Shear stress, I’m wondering how in the world you get
250m^2 from (.80m)(.0050m)?
328 CHAPTER 11 Elasticity and Periodic Motion EXAMPLE 11.3 Minor earthquake damage Video Tutor Now let's look at the shear stress that can develop in an earthquake. Suppose the brass baseplate of an out- door sculpture experiences shear forces as a result of a mild earthquake. The plate is a square, 0.80 m on a side and 0.50 cm thick. How large a force Fi...
Find some "real world" data. This data needs to have two sets of numbers that correspond to each other in an exponential pattern. Choose data with at least 10 pairs of data values. Caution: Do not select specific problems already in your text! Also, please be careful not to select exponential growth models that do not need data fitting such as doubling models. For example, if you already know a particular model grows by doubling each time period, then you...
