1. Transitional Epithelium

  • point out the layer of transitional epithelium lining the Bladder
  • explain why this type of epithelium is important in an organ of this type
  • locate the connective tissue in the wall of the Bladder

2. Compact bone

  • locate an osteon
  • point out the osteocytes (cells) in this connective tissue
  • locate the ground substance and describe its consistency/makeup
  • identify the central canal, concentric lamellae, lacunae, and canaliculi in the osteon
  • explain what the difference is between the osteocyte and lacuna
  • can you see protein fibers? What type would they be?
  • describe the general functions of this tissue type

3. Hyaline cartilage

  • identify the chondrocytes (cells) in this connective tissue
  • point out the ground substance
  • can you see protein fibers? What type would they be?
  • locate the lacunae and explain how they differ from the chondrocytes
  • describe the general functions and locations of this tissue

4. Neuron

  • identify the neuron cell body and nucleus
  • identify projections from the cell body; can you distinguish the axon from the dendrites?
  • identify where the axon hillock would be in relation to the axon
  • describe the surrounding matrix; what does it consist of?

5. Reticular Connective Tissue

  • identify reticular fibers in the Reticular tissue: Lymph node
  • point out individual cells and the ground substance in this connective tissue
  • describe how the fibers in this tissue type differ from those in other connective tissues
  • explain the general function of this tissue type and locations in the body where it is found

1. Transitional epithelium.

It is a layer of cell which forms mucosal lining of ureters and urinary bladder. Stratified cells of transitional epithelium provides protection and allow the organ to stretch to increase in volume and to accommodate fluid.
