Answer #1

The process is called radioactive dating and uses 14 C

It is an isotope of carbon, its presence in organic material gives the idea of age.

It has a half life of 5730 years and decays into nitrogen 14.

The primary source is cosmic ray action on nitrogen in atmosphere.

The method uses 14 C to find the age of carbonaceous materilas. It mainly counts number of disintegrations per minute.

This method can only be used to find the age of organic materials.

non organic materials can not be dated  such as salts, metals elemental compounds etc.
