Answer #1

ANS. We can see from the given reaction that the reactants react in mole ratio of 1:4. So with 1 mole of MnO2 4 moles of HCl will react and form 1 mole of Cl2 . Now we have to calculate moles of HCl and see if it is the limiting reagent or not.

Molar mass of HCl = 36.5

Amount given =   44gm

Moles = 44/36.5

= 1.20

Moles of MnO2 given = 0.98

Since both are not in ratio of 1:4 HCl is the limiting reagent and hence the formation of moles of Cl2 will be 1/4 th of moles of HCl given.

So moles of Cl2 that will form =0.3 moles

Molar mass of Cl2 = 71

Amount of Cl2 formed in gm = 0.3*71

= 21.3 gms
