Answer #1

Answer:- A woman somatic cell has two X chromosomes and all of their genes were to be active in women, they would have twice as many copies of the proteins that they produce. This would consequently result in a disequilibrium that would disrupt the finely balanced biochemistry of the human body. Another reason is this states the default state of the x chromosomes in females is inactivation, but one chromosome is always selected to remain active. It is understood that x chromosome is a random process, occuring at about the time of the gastrulation in the epiblast.

select the true statements regarding the roles of sex chromosomes in human development. Select the true statements regarding the roles of sex chromosomes in human development. The X chromosome does not contain functional genes. An individual missing the SRY region of the Y chromosome will be phenotypically female. XXX females develop normally except for some slight physical abnormalities. XO females are viable, whereas YO males are inviable. Female cells typically contain two active X chromosomes which are both actively transcribed.

Female fruit flies typically have two X chromosomes; male fruit flies typically have one X and one Y chromosome. They have other chromosomes too that are NOT sex chromosomes. Suppose there is a gene in fruit flies that influences the hairs a fly has on its thorax (the middle section of its body). A recessive allele of this gene causes the hairs to be very thick, while a dominant allele causes the hairs to be very thin. Suppose a heterozygous...

The human X chromosome is about the same size as human chromosomes 4 and 5. Trisomy of the X chromosome occurs about once in every thousand human female births, and yet trisomy 4 and trisomy 5 are almost never seen among living humans. Why do these differences in the frequency of trisomic individuals occur, in spite of similar chromosome size?

D Question 22 Identify a FALSE statement about X chromosomes: a) X chromosome inactivation occurs in all somatic cells of females. b) Xist inactivates only the maternally inherited X chromosome. The inactiveX chromosome is coated with Xist transcripts. di X chromosome inactivation does not occur in males. In early cleavage stage embryos, both X chromosomes are active.

Description Human chromosomes are classified as either autosomes or sex chromosomes, and the inheritance patterns of traits vary depending on the type of chromosome they are located on. Why is this the case? Instructions Read Chapter 5 in Essentials of Genetics, then respond to the prompt below: Prompt: In humans (and most animals), sex is determined using the X-Y system. The basis of this system is that the number of X chromosomes and Y chromosomes determines whether the individual will...

The XY sex determination system is found in Drosophila, where both female X-chromosomes are active. Flies compensate for the two active X chromosomes by increasing transcription of the single male X ~two fold (hence, X/A = 1 in both males and females).
