Answer #1
  • Slicing refers to choosing one of the dimensions as a reference for the cube in OLAP and producing a smaller cube with respect to it which will be one dimension less than the OLAP.
  • Suppose there are three dimensions time, item type and location. In the case of slicing, a particular time is taken and a graph is prepared between the item type and location.
  • Dicing refers to the choice of two or more values from the multidimensions and then the whole cube is rotated.
  • Thus, a detailed analysis can be done using both techniques.
  • In the case of Pivot tables and pivot charts.analysis can be done based on the conditions that can be implemented using customization or recommended pivot tables or charts. Slicing and dicing is done on these data so that analysis can be done
  • There may occur slicing and dicing that may not result in a fruitful analysis. So, before slicing it should be clearer what needs to be analyzed.
