This therapy emphasize that psychological problem arises from common processes such as faulty thinking and error in making inferences.

Let's discuss some of the systematic error or thought pattern that lead to faulty assumptions and misconceptions.

1) Selective abstraction - It consist of forming conclusion on the basis of an isolated detail of an event. Other information is ignored and significance of the whole thing is missed. For ex - As a student, you might measure your worth on the basis of errors made in the test or assignment, not by the A grade you got in other assignments.

2) Personalization - It involves relating the external unrelated event to oneself, even when there is no logical basis for making this association. In this, for some negative event person might feel that it is because of him/her, For ex - A new friend that you made yesterday couldn't come to see you at the time you decided to meet today, might make you feel that You let him down and he will never come back to see you again.

3) Labeling and mislabeling - It includes portraying one's identity on the basis of imperfections and mistakes made in the past and allowing them to define one's true identity. It is as same as tagging someone on the basis of some past events and judging him/her according to that tag. For ex - If you couldn't live up to your's parents expectations last semester, You may feel that you are worthless.
