An employer should ensure that any job offers are for an indeterminate time period. There should be a disclaimer in the job offer stating specifically that the employment relationship is strictly at-will. All documents should be thoroughly reviewed including contracts, application blanks, and employee handbooks, to make sure that nothing but an at-will relationship is the desired outcome. Finally, all members of the organization should ensure that no oral statements or promises are made that would contradict the understood at-will employment.
