A bomber plane carries a speed of 280 m / s and a dive angle of 30 ° below the horizontal. When its altitude is 2150 m, it drops a bomb that then reaches a target on the floor. a) Calculate the time it takes for the bomb to reach the target. b) At what horizontal distance from the trigger point is the target? c) If the plane continues in a straight line with the same speed, where is it when the bomb reaches the floor? Answer #1

A bomb is dropped ,

altitude = 2150 m

horizontal velocity = 280 m/s

and vertical velocity = 0

y = vy-init t + ½ at2

2150 = 280*sin30*t + ½*9.81*t2

2150 = 140*t + ½*9.81*t2

solving for t

140*t + ½*9.81*t2-2150

t = 11.06 s
