The classic view of the cells of the blastema are that they are completely dedifferentiated and have the same potential as ES cells. Experiments in which GFP transgenic tissue was transplanted demonstrated which of the following?

A.All blastema cells contribute to all cell lineages during regeneration

B.Blastema cells are embryonic stem cells.

C.Blastema cells do not dedifferentiate.

D.Blastema cells can only contribute to the lineage they were originally.

Answer #1

A.All blastema cells contribute to all cell lineages during regeneration.

Embryonic stem cells have the potential to form cells of all kinds and lineages within the body. If blastema cells have the same potential as embryonic stem cells, then they will also be able to contribute to all cell lineages during regeneration.

The other options are wrong as, blastema cells behave like ES cells, but they are not ES cells as blastema cells have come originated from a mature tissue and not an embryo; blastema cells do dedifferentiate; blastema cells can contribute to not just the lineage they were developed from originally, but to all lineages.

Question Set 3 (20 pts) As discussed in class, the pluripotential properties of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) were demonstrated by classic studies of marking cells by retroviral transduction and using these cells to reconstitute irradiated mice to make a "bone marrow chimera". Then one assesses fate based on integration sites in the haematopoietically derived cells. Recent studies such as those by Rodriguez-Fraticelli et al. 2018. Clonal Analysis of Lineage Fate in Native Hematopoiesis. Nature 553: 212 (PMC: 5884107) have used...

please answer this post and ask one question regarding this post Embryonic stem cells are a type of cell that derive from embryos. This process usually happens though in vitro fertilization and then donated to research with consent of the donor. These cells are useful for research and can be used to “regenerate and repair damaged tissue, some current therapies such as bone marrow transplantation already make use to stem cells and their potential for regeneration of damaged tissues” (Kohl,...

Embryonic stem cells are undifferentiated “blank” cells that can form into any of the tissues present in humans. This makes them all-purpose cells. Because they can form any tissue, harvesting stem cells has become something similar to the holy grail, but harvesting them is fraught with great controversy. Stem cells have two important properties. If they are left in the dish, they will continue to multiply and form more stem cells. If they are placed in different growth conditions, they...
