How does the theoretical perspective explain inequity in the workplace?

Theoretical perspectives that can be used to explain inequity in the workplace include:

  1. Functionalist
  2. Interactionist
  3. Conflict

Inequity in the workplace, when viewed through each of these perspectives, provides a better focus on the reasons why such inequities exist. The functionalist perspective is about the bigger picture and essentially how inequity in the workplace is sometimes necessary in order to maintain the balance. The interactionist perspective is about how everyday interactions in the workplace vastly decide inequity in the workplace. Every social interaction in itself is a place where inequity starts or ends. The conflict perspective talks about how when there is an inequity in the workplace in terms of power, resources, or status, there is conflict in the workplace. Theoretical perspectives focus on the why and the how of the way in which an issue is focussed or blurred out - in this case - inequity in the workplace.
