MgCl2 reacts with NH4OH to give aqueous solution of NH4Cl and a precipitate of Mg(OH)2.

To write ionic equation , dissociate all the aqueous species to their respective ions.

To write net ionic equation cancel all the ions present on both sides of the reaction.

Those ions which are present unchanged on both the sides of the reaction are called spectator or viewer ions.

In this reaction Chloride ion(Cl-) and ammonium ion(NH4+) are present unchanged on both sides of the reaction. Hence they are viewer ions.

Viewer ions are -- NH4+ , Cl-
