Difference between distributed memory architecture and shared memory architecture:

Shared memory architecture:

  • In case of the shared-memory architecture, it allows multiple processing elements to share the same memory.
  • Since all the shared-memory approach due to all CPU-cores competing for the memory access over the same shared bus.
  • Shared memory architectures are difficult to build but are easy to use and is generally used in desktops and laptops.

Distributed memory architecture:

  • Distributed-memory architecture uses multiple cores in a machine and then connect together using the network.
  • Distributed-memory architecture are sufficiently fast network as because it uses millions of CPU-cores.
  • Distributed-memory architecture are easier to build but it is harder to use. It is suitable for modern super computers.
