Briefly describe evidence that led Darwin to the idea that evolution occurs by natural selection?

Darwin visited Galapagos islands. There he found that there were finches or birds which evolved from a common ancestor and had different beaks according to their feeding habits.

Finches who feed on fruits have different beaks those who used to feed on seeds or leaves.

So, every Finch evolved from a common ancestor depending on the habit of that Finch.

So, it is natural selection which led to the formation of a particular finch.

Natural selection means that there exist a variation In a population. When a character is favoured then it is transferred to the future generations as the individuals with the character reproduces and transfers that character to the future generations.
