In this week's lesson we discussed the various ways to monitor performance. One modern method is electronic performance monitoring, or monitoring work processes with electronic devices; can be very cost effective and has the potential for providing detailed and accurate work logs. For example) monitoring a work computer to seek if an employee is using the computer for nonproductive purposes (shopping, downloading music) or counterproductive purposes (bullying coworkers, watching porn). The issue is that EPM can reduce motivation and satisfaction while improving performance. Is this fair or an invasion of privacy?
Work ethics is one which must be strictly followed for all type of jobs by the employee. Human being by nature are lazy and hence it is the duty of employer to ensure that an employee should give maximum productivity during working hours. It is true that as per work ethics we are not suppose to use any property owned by the company or employer for personal benefit which is a part of breaching contract terms and conditions. It is true that constant monitoring can create stress among employees. However there is no option but to dedicate the allotted working hours except the break time to be dedicated for company’s productivity.
