The protein sequence of myoglobin has aspartate (D) in a certain position, whereas the α chain of hemoglobin has glutamate (E) in the same position.
How would this difference be scored in a Blosum‑62 matrix? choose the correct answer

a) It would be given a negative substitution score.

b) It would result in a single‑residue gap penalty.

c) It would be given a positive substitution score.

d) It would be scored as an identity.

Answer #1

Answer

Option C is correct i.e " It would be given a positive substitution score ".

Explanation

As both the amino acids Aspartate (D) and Glutamate (E) are negatively charged and both amino acids imparts negative charge to protein. Hence, it does not effect the functionality of protein that's why positive score will be given.

Hagrid has purified a protein from unicom sweat and called UNI-1. He has then doned the Unit gone and inserted in rat zygotes (by microinjection) a recombinant construct containing the Uni-1 coding sequence its entire 5 UTR region, covering both the minimal promoter and a series of cutative regulatory als elements. The mutantrats develop glorious, luminous hair. Hagrid has also discovered that the UNI-1 protein binds very tightly to DNA and hypothesizes it is a transcription factor that regulates proliferation...
