Discuss why social security number is considered as a poor identification method. In your opinion does having a new national ID card solve the problem? Explain your reasons.

Though social security number used to be the best mode of identification of an individual but if that same data gets leaked, it can result in a very dangerous situation as most of the information of an individual is linked with this social security number. If any kind of mismanagement happens with those important credentials it can put people’s identity at stake. Here is why SSN is not a good way for identification:

• In the field of Medicare, the card has social security number printed on it. And by mistake if the card is lost or get stolen or falls in a wrong hand, it can result into the patient’s data leakage. This could result into huge security threat for the person’s information.
• In case of the tax document, previously the security number is being used, the person’s over whole income can easily be finding out through that social security number.

This way, a hacker can able to get details of all your personal information they anyway get hold of the person’s SSN. Hence, it can not be considered as the good identification token.

It is always better to use other Identity Number which can provide more security. Every citizen’s data should be at a different database and those data should not be linked with individual’s Identity number. Identification number should be used to identify the individual as a citizen of the country.
