Facework - They are the strategies that an individual applies in social scenarios and conditions to establish or restore a social sense of self.
For example - Presenting ourselves in a different manner to the different people we talk to according to the different levels they are in our mentally constructed social hierarchies.
Positive face - It refers to the self esteem of the person. It is also related to the manner in which the person views themselves.
For example - When we are appreciating a person for their achievements or successes then we are dealing with their positive face.
Preventive facework - It is an act where the objective is to protect the face that has been lost in a social scenario. It is about safeguarding our face.
For example - Pre-apology and disclaimers are examples of preventive facework as they are tring to safeguard the face.
Corrective facework - In this case, the objective is to restore and reinstate the face that has been lost in a face threatening scenario.
For example - The politeness strategies like Positive and negative politeness. Like asking the person we want to disturb if they were doing something important.
