       * It is a set of chemical reactions occur in the cells of human body.

       * Metabolism is important for effective utilization of energy by cells of

          the body.

       * Based on the chemical reactions occur during metabolism it is divided

         into two

                      1) Anabolism.

                               * It is biosynthesis chemical reaction in which cells synthesize

                                  complex molecules from simple molecules with the utilization of

                                  energy.

                            Eg; Production of proteins needed for cells from aminoacids.

                        2) Catabolism.

                               * It is a degradation reaction in which macromolecules are divided into

                                  small molecules and release energy during this process.

                           Eg; Glycolysis is catabolic process in which glycogen degrade to form

                                   glucose and release energy as ATP and NADH.

Respiration.

        * It is a complex physiological process in which exchange of O2 and CO2

           occur between organism and environment.

       * Process of absorption of O2 from environment known as inspiration.

       * Elimination of CO2 into the environment known as expiration.

        * Basic chemistry of respiration include

              * Collective process of absorption of O2 from the environment.

              * Oxidation of food material in the cells of the body with the help

                 of absorbed O2.
