Symplast pathway formed by the system of interconnected protoplasts of diferent cels. Neighbouring cells are connected through cytoplasmic strands that extend through plasmodesmata.

During symplasic rnovement, the water travels through the cells-their cyloplasm; intercellular movement is throughth plasodesmata. Water has to enter the cels through the cell membrane, hence movement is eatively sover, movement is again down a potential gradient. Symplastic movement may be aided by gtoplasmic steaming.
