I know the answer is C but I don't really understand why?

The reason for 'C' is the answer is because, as we go according to the definitions, we get to know the exact meaning and the sequence wise stage of development of a being.

The reason is explained in simple way:
Just keep in mind about the basic requirement of the mentioned things, so we proceed....
We all know that the simplest, smallest, indivisible and undivideable substance is an atom, so when these atoms are united, the development of molecules or the accumulation of atoms makes an molecule.

Now coming to life forms, we must know that all the prokaryotes as well as eukaryotes are the basic organelles, in which the animals are generally eukaryotes, which forms a multicellular organelles.

Now the entry of cell takes place, which is also regarded as basic structural and functional unit of life, these cells forms tissues, these tissues together forms organs, various organs comprise to form organ systems, the control and coordination of all organ systems gives rise to a huge organisms, these organisms lives in a societies divided in various forms i.e., religion, caste, creed , sector, sex, etc., to form a population, a particular population of specified area, whatsoever it is(it can be of aquatic, terrestrial, colonies) they form community and lastly all the community comes together to form an ecosystem.

And lastly these all ecosystem forms all the living beings of the planet earth.

So these are generally the order, which is in ascending order and this is also termed as the sequence of life from a small particle of atom to humongous ecosystem.
