Secularization hypothesis:

By its literal meaning it refers to theory holding that as the world became more modern, educated and aware , the religious sentiments and divine dependence started to decrease drastically.

Securalization can be referred to the transition of society and nations from blind followers of religion to the less religious fact based society that tends to find logic in everything they undertake.

Securalization thesis thus holds that the societies have transformed from being the practitioners of religion, acting as per the values, scriptures and firm beliefs that their religion reveals onto them; to that of the scientifically driven societies, operating on cause and effect bases, finding reason behind everything and exhibiting rationale for every cause.

Securalization believes that societies have progressed through industrialisation, modernization, innovation and technology which has resulted in loosing of religious sentiments and authority. The societies so developed have increased the standard of living, and driven the whole focus of people towards the socially desirable lives where culture and religion does not form a significant part. In securalized societies the religion is restricted to be a part of life and not the basis of life.
Being a part of life , it entails instilling religious values which in practical form are not followed.
An individual of a secular society would rather visit library then to visit church during free time because church is just an alternative and has lost its vital significance in life , to the level that it is compromised.
A person would rather invest in mutual funds for multiplying savings instead of spending money for earning rewards in hereafter.

Non religious values have thus over taken the society.
Schools, office, career, travel, govt, have become more significant and less influenced by religion.

However Secularization hypothesis are said to be flawed as the modern scientists believe that although societies have witnessed a transition from the tradition and culturally driven societies to modern and technology driven society but perhaps the societies have not lost religious significance as they are rational enough and have naturally come close for finding the purpose of life, the creator of nature, the living mechanism , and universal truth. This verily brings them close to understanding the creation of universe and its creator.

In short it can be concluded that secularisation tends to witness the transition of society towards the non religious societies which might or might not hold true in long run.
