HOW DO YOUNG PEOPLE THINK ABOUT AFRICAN UNION?

The African Union is a continental union constisting of 55 member states locates on the continent of Africa. The AU was announced in the Sirte Declaration in Sirte, Libya, on 9 September 1999, calling for the establishment of the african union. The bloc was Founded on 26 May 2001 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, launched on 9, July 2002 in Durban, South Africa. The intention of the AU was to replace the Organisation of African Unity Established on 25 May 1963 in Addis Ababa by 32 Sigantory goverments; the OAU was dibanded on 9 July 2002. The most important decisions of the AU are made by the Assembly of The African Union, a semi annual meeting of the heads of stateand government of its member states. The AU's secretariat, the African Union Commision, is based in Addis Ababa. The largest city in the Au is Lagos, Nigeria, while the largest urban agglomeration is Cario, Egypt.

HOW THE AFRICAN MULTILATERALISM WORKS ?

The commitment of African Countries to Multilateralism has often gone unnoticed. But a time when the world is increasingly turning its back on shared institutions, this could change, with Africa emerging as a vocal and empowered champion of multilaterarism at the regional, continental and global levels. African countries have long recognized the integral role of multilaterarism in fostering development, prosperity and peace. From the 1960s to 1990s, multilateral initiatives provided critical support for African countries as they escaped colonialism and ended apartheid.

A pillar of global multilateralism, the 55 member organisation is particularly effective at the Un general assembly, where sheer number are key to getting motions passed. At the continental level, the AU comprises eightregional bodies covering Southern, Central, Eastern, Western and Northen Africa. Regarded as the building blocks of the wider African Economic Community, these bodies faciliate coordination among neighbors in ways that support the Au's broader peace, security, development and governance agendas.
