Discuss a specific subculture to which you belong. What is it and why is it a subculture? Describe the social structures of the subculture. Is it analagous to, or different from, the dominant social structure of American society? Be sure to substantiate your discussion with facts and examples.

The specific subculture selected is the Scheduled Caste (SC) which is a part of Hindu culture.

Hindu society is a mixture of various subcultures such as Marathas, Brahmins, Rajputs, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, Shudras(SC). All subcultures follow different styles of living, speak various languages, celebrate different festivals and perform different functions.

For eg: Brahmins do various religious activities, Vaishyas are the trader class,etc.

Social structure of the SCs:-

  • social structure is quite liberal.
  • Not rigid
  • Treats all equally

This culture is different from the dominant social structure of the American society.
