Biochemistry has a very close relation to organic chemisrty, inorganic chemistry and analytical chemistry. Every subject has their own aspect and complement each other. There is important overlap but each discipline has topic different from each other.

• Biochemistry is the science involving the application of chemistry for the study of living organisms while organic chemistry deals with organic compounds. Most biochemical reactions are organic in nature. The major atoms are carbon atoms and major bonds being covalent bond. Most organic chemistry involves bond cleavage and new bond formation. The same also occurs in biochemistry from the point of view of action of enzymes on their substrate. To understand Chemical bonds such as glycosidic bond, peptide bond, phosphodiester bond sound knowledge of esterification, condensation, hydrolysis etc. Needed.
• Analytical chemistry is the science of identifying and measuring things. It is the tool used by scientist or researchers to analyse the properties of biochemical molecules, protein folding by using different instrumentation method.
• Inorganic chemistry is concerned with behaviour and properties of various metal, minerals and organometallic compounds. The inorganic molecules interact with various macro molecules in the body. They provide the building blocks for protein, nucleic acid , lipid etc. Biological processes require a specific metal because of its unique property like electron transition states, specific crystal field stabilisation energy.
• Understanding of biochemical processes requires knowledge of various branch of chemistry so that biochemistry can be helpful in various application like vaccine preparation, medicines etc. Which will help in treating deadly diseases.
