Cultural differences play an important role in deciding the success and future of any organization. In terms of project management , we can say its accomplishments will be affected by the team members working to achieve the project goals along with national dimensions of the culture. The following dimensions may be different in various cultures ,
1) Time management:
People in Japan and America and many countries in Europe believes to complete the projects and business obligations on time. In many Asian and African countries, it will be lacking hence projects may be delayed. Persons belonging to a specific culture like Chinese, American etc. influence their respective organization or projects in which they have to play some roles.
2) Long term versus short term orientation :
People belonging to west culture, Focus on short term goals accomplishments whereas in Japan people believes in long term orientation of success. To complete the projects, members orientation will be important. A short run orientation needs aggressive action and young people to accomplish the project goals.
3) Power distance : How much people close to top management in a culture also decides the completions of any specific project task. In America, Top leaders used to listen employees even working on operational level.
4) Uncertainty avoidance :
People avoid risky venture or opportunities. The degree to which people take risks and avoid uncertain things comes under this dimension. Generally, people belonging to a specific culture say Indian might avoid any unseen challenges or opportunities.
