Question 1

As an advanced student in public health, you’ve agreed to speak about cancer prevention to a group of Rutgers freshmen.   Please begin by telling your audience what cancer is, how often it tends to happen, who tends to get it, as well as some of the personal and/or social consequences of this disease. Be sure to consider your audience: your talk should be sufficiently detailed but in terms they can understand. (Suggested length: at least two good paragraphs.)

Question 2

The heart of your talk is on prevention. Focusing on the three top cancer killers for males as well as for females in the U.S., please discuss primary as well as secondary prevention each cancer. Note: two of the three top cancer killers overlap for males and females. Each will also have one sex-specific cancer killer. So, you will be discussing a total of 4 cancers. (Suggested length: at least four good paragraphs.)

Question 3

One of the students in the audience says that she has a family history of breast cancer and has heard that genetic mutations play an important role in its development. She wants to know why public health officials are still promoting cancer prevention, especially for this cancer. (Suggested: at least two or three good paragraphs.)

Question 4

Finally, please select two other cancers that are likely to be of interest to our freshman, which lend themselves to primary or secondary prevention strategies and discuss them. In addition to age, you should also consider the incredible diversity of our student body including LGBTQ and other differences including global composition. (Suggested length: at least two good paragraphs.)
