When would the median be preferred to the arithmetic mean as a measure of central tendency? In what situations would you recommend using both?
The median is used as a measure of central tendency when the data contain the intervals or when the data is affected by the outliner data i.e which contain variation at the end or starting point. Also in case of left hand skewed data, right hand skewed data or normally distributed data median is the most effective method of central tendency. If in such cases mean is used it provides a vague result which is not important for the firm.
When we had the data is normally distributed only in such cases one can use both the mean or the median as your measure of central tendency. In such type of data the value is very less at the starting as well as at the end point.
