Explain why patients with a UTI caused by Proteus mirabilis would have a higher than normal urine pH.
Normal pH of urine is usually in the range of 4.5-8.
Low pH of urine means that urine is acidic and high pH of urine means it is alkaline.
Alkaline urine in UTI' s may be due to break down of urea into ammonia and other alkaline products.
Proteus mirabilis is a gram negative bacilli that swarms. It also has the ability to convert urea into ammonia. In the case of Proteus, the urease enzyme is very potent often leading to urosepsis and other complications as both the rapid movement and multiplication of Proteus and the high activity of of urease enzyme leads to crystallization of ammonia and calcium salts leading to blockages of the UT. Thus urine in patients suffering from UTI caused by this organism has a high pH than normal.

Based on Kinetic Molecular theory, explain/answer the following: a. Why would inhaling helium make your voice become much higher than normal? b. Why would inhaling sulfur hexafluoride make your voice much lower than normal? c. Would your voice be higher or lower than average if you’re in the hospital and placed in an oxygen-rich environment?
Problem 2 Acidosis, a condition in which serum pH is lower than normal occurs in patients with renal failure, with serum pH falling below 7.35. Contrarily severe vomiting and dehydration can cause alkalosis, a) Plot the curves of hemoglobin oxygen saturation for patients in conditions of acidosis and b) In alkalosis is oxygen released more or less efficiently to the tissues? What is the effect of c) The response to mild acidosis (between pH 7.15 and 7.35) is a complex...

Does 1,3 - dimethylcyclohexane have a higher or lower vapor pressure than water? Please explain why and what factor size has on this situation. I will vote thumbs up for a quick and detailed response. Thanks (: Also, if you could explan why dimethylcyclohexane is not soluble in water, that would be much appreciated!
