Communication is the flow of information between people, is a very significant part of the workplace. Managers must be able to communicate with employees and employees must be able to communicate with managers in order to have a profitable and Smooth business.

Communication can be both Verbal and Nonverbal. Verbal communication consists of the spoken words whereas the Nonverbal communication involves communicating without speaking either by writing or through body language.

Open and closed communication are the subtypes of communication.

Open communication occurs when all the people are able to express their ideas to one another, such as in a form of conversation ora debate. In closed communication only one person actively communicates, like a lecture from a professor. Open communication gives everyone equal participation in the success of the business. Creating an atmosphere of open communication allows for the flow of energy and creativity. It establishes an environment where all employees have an good understanding of their goals and they have a clear idea of what needs to be done to accomplish those goals. Open communication leads to a more vibrant and positive workplace. Effective communication leads everyone to move in the same direction which is towards the same goal. Open Communication starts with a commitment from the top. Ensure that all managers are committed to open communication, and understands what it means in your organization. Open Communication includes transparent and positive messages and does not consist of slangs or jargon that might not be understood by subcultures within the place of work.

Motivation is an internal condition that activates behaviour and gives it direction. It energizes and directs the goal-oriented behaviour of a person and it forces an individual to behave in a specific way. One of the most overlooked ways to motivate the employees is through an effective open communication. An effective communication makes employees feel more empowered. It also gives them a sense of belonging, boost their productivity, increases morale, camaraderie and responsibility. Motivation also reduces turnover. Also, when the lines of communication are open the employees feel comfortable with the relationship they have with the workforce.

Some ways in which an effective open communication in the workplace improves employee wellbeing and motivation are as follow:

1. Workplaces need effective relationships between colleagues, managers and departments in order to be achieve goals. Effective communication between employees at all managerial levels strengthens relationships. This creates a positive working environment, and improves both employee motivation and productivity.

2. The communication should be transparent, clear and precise. Clarity is also crucial as unclear communication can lead to unfulfilled expectations which spoils the relationships and leads to breakdown of trust.

3. When communication and information flow freely and openly between colleagues and those in other departments, it inspires efforts to collaborate, improves knowledge sharing, and gives employees access to other peoples’ skills that help them do their job in a better way. Collaborative environment leads to stressed free workforce.

4. Giving employees an opportunity to get involved in making decisions has anpositive effect on employee motivation. Involving employees in decision-making by explaining the issue and asking for their thoughts and ideas demonstrates to employees that their perspective and opinions are valued, and it can lead to solutions managers might not have considered.

5. It's vital that employers have effective communication channels that reach all their employees. Sharing information with employees ensures that everyone is on the same page, and shares the same understanding of the company goals and vision.

6. The mental health of a workforce is linked to how engaged and motivated they are in an organization. Career development opportunities are the important contributor to employee motivation. Managers and employees should identify opportunities for career and personal development within the organisation. Managers, Employees and HR professionals should work together to develop training programmes or courses that can improve employee’s skills and knowledge.

Therefore creating an open environment leads to reduced stress, greater job satisfaction, team building, increased commitment, loyalty towards organization as well as mutual respect throughout the organization. Open communication creates a more productive work environment and a positive workplace.
