Outer surface of the both lungs and the internal wall of bony frame formed by the ribs round the chest are bordered with dual serous membrane known as the pleura.Membrane present on the exterior surface of both the lung is known as the visceral pleura and one which give the lining for thoracic chamber wall is known as the parietal pleura.

In in the middle of visceral and parietal pleura is a tiny space known as the pleural cavity,which include little quantity of lubricating liquid secreted by tunics.The liquid decreases the friction among the tunics,permitting them to slide comfortably over each other at the time of inhalation and exhalation.
