Enlightenment was one of the most important eras which brought reasoning and scientific advancements in the society thus significantly reducing the importance of religions. It also criticised the traditional religious views that limited people from reasoning and thinking. The great awakening on the other hand evolved as a response to enlightenment. The great awakening not only brought back the importance of religions back in the minds of people but also brought religion o the common people with a radical view that anyone could become a clergy and not only the power elites. Thus, enlightenment wanted to reduce the significance of religion and increase the significance of science while the great awakening tried to increase the significance of religion in the lives of people and tried to establish equality among people.
