The given scenario indicates that management is not taking initiatives to take care of the best interests of the community and customers as stakeholders. Though, communities and customers are two most important stakeholders. Hence, it can be said that it is a problem. It can also be understood by the different ethical theories. The first ethical theory is utilitarian theory that says that any initiative or decision that does not benefit the majority of the society or population, is considered unethical. With reference to this theory, the management decision is also going to adversely affect the customer population. So, management decision is unethical. The second ethical theory is deontological theory where the intention of the action is evaluated. Here, intention of the management decision is already clear to adversely affect the customers. So, this decision is unethical in nature.
To address the problem, my first step will be to find out alternative approach or decision that helps management achieve its objectives, without incurring any financial expenses. The second step will be the possible cost of management decisions in terms of loss of market share, negative publicity and poor goodwill among target audience if the management pursues the decision. With this, I will present the case to the management and will make them convince as it is about the company's vision to create value for its own customers.
