The elevated triglycerides is an indication of cardiovascular risk no matter what the HDL level is.HDL and triglycerides are metabolically connected and are related inversely.As triglycerides increases the level of HDL gets reduced.The high level of triglycerides and low HDL chlesterol is found in type 2 diabetic patient.When there is high triglycerides then other problems too can be seen like high blood pressure,diabetes,obesity,high levels of "bad" LDL cholesterol and "low" levels of good HDL cholesterol.Its difficult to know which problems are caused by high triglycerides alone.Elevated triglycerides and elevated fasting glucose exists together and increase risk for cardiovascular disease and diabetes
