One of the pressing issues which the aviation industry is facing is to maintain the tight schedules of the flights despite the ever increasing air traffic. The flights need to board on time, make the flights ready for operations and fly at the dedicated time. The changing weather conditions can attribute as a roadblock to this feature of the aviation industry. The aviation industry needs to keep coming up with innovative strategies to maintain their on time flights.
FAA as well as reputed airlines like Southwest Airlines are considering various alternatives which can keep their TAT low and maintain their on time schedules. Southwest airlines was considering various alternatives to make the boarding process quicker. One of the alternatives being considered is creating awareness among the passengers about the boarding process. In my views, entertaining and engaging educational boarding video option will be quite appropriate option for the boarding process of Southwest Airlines. This will keep the customers engaged as well as educated them about the boarding process. This option will increase the awareness among the consumers and make them well-informed about the various ways in which effective boarding can be done. The consumer perspective of effective boarding can also be quite beneficial. Through this the company can make the customers aware about the benefits of effective boarding for the consumers. This will facilitate the consumer adherence to effective boarding procedures. Moreover, it can serve as a great way of promoting the company brand. The company can be promoted as a paternalistic company and hence consumers will feel more valued and related with the company. This, in turn, will increase the overall business of the company.
To evaluate the gate boarding and plan turnaround, the company can observe its operations for a month. The boarding time and departure time of the various flights needs to be recorded and an average time for the same will be measured. This value must be compared with the mean boarding and departure time of the company of a month before interval. This will give a clearer picture of the effectiveness of the new boarding process. If there is significant difference in the mean times, then it can be inferred that the new boarding process is quite beneficial to facilitate the company’s field operations. If there is not much significant difference, then the company needs to think of a turnaround plan which will be aimed at facilitating the operational process of the company. The overall objective of the company’s processes must be to facilitate the operations of the company as well as keep the customer satisfaction rate quite high.
