Nordell & Valone, 2nd ed Animal Behavior The use of comparative data to explore adaptation is often very powerful. However, there are also some pitfalls. How can you use comparative data to study behavioral adaptation and avoid these pitfalls?
Comparative data is used to compare the behavior of number of animals that gave the knowledge of actions taken by animals in the adverse environmental conditions. For example, some animal undergo hibernation during extreme winters. Therefore, the comparative data is used to find how different animal correspond to any specific environmental conditions. Using of comparative data signify that when adverse condition come some animal undergo hibernation like beer and some animals like birds migrate from their habitat. Comparative data also used to find evolutionary relationship
We can avoid pitfall by complete understanding and taking all aspect of the behavior. Like, if the behavior of animal is temporary or permanent. If the behavior is helping the animal to live long. Similarly, many factor should be used while comparing behaviour adaptations in animals.
