The inner membrane extends into the matrix of the mitochondria,forming structures called cristae.This extension and folding increases the available surface area,allowing for binding of many electron transport chain.

Mitochondria is a double membrane-bound organelle.They are called as power houses of the cell.The electron transport chain is build an electrochemical gradient across the inner membrane using protons.Mitochondria are located in the cytoplasm of cells.
