Evolution Class:
Describe how genetic tools based on evolutionary principles are beneficial toward societal progress in addressing contemporary medical, agricultural and/or conservation issues. For each method, include a brief description of how the method assesses molecular genetics (what aspect of genetics is measured and how?) and an example of an important discovery about an evolutionary relationship that this method contributed toward.
I need help on the methods (3 total) but maybe just bullet points to help?
1. Gene editing technology, such as CRISPR/Cas9 hold the potential provide enable reserachers with basic knowledge that improved precision the genetic structure of an living organism that possible applications in plant, microbial, animal and genetic intervention.
2. SNP - Detection of single nucleotide polymorphism used to detect and track the variations in the individuals of a progeny at DNA level and also at protein level. In order to discover SNPs in a genome-wide fashion and avoid repetitive and duplicated DNA, it is very important to employ genome complexity reduction techniques coupled with NGS technologies.
3. Barcoding method: rbcL and matK gene sequencing of genetically diversity species of any plant groups can be conserved. this technique fall within the in situ conservation techniques. The pantropical genus Dalbergia L.f. (Fabaceae: Papilionoideae) is an example of a taxonomic plant group that is in need of better identification tools in order to set up proper conservation guidelines.
